About Us
Educating Teens
In this rural area of México, the primary industry is agriculture. Most children without an education will be destined to a hard life of working in the fields and will be challenged with poverty, and potentially poor health.
In the United States, all children are eligible for free education for Kindergarten through Grade 12. In México families must pay for the administrative fees, uniforms, supplies, and transportation costs for their children that are in Prepa (high school).
While the cost by U.S. standards is small, it is prohibitive for many families, especially those with multiple children and whose primary income is from working in the field.
You can help us make a dramatic difference in the lives of these children and help offer them an opportunity to rise out of poverty and break generational cycles of need. Education provides them with that opportunity, an opportunity they otherwise wouldn’t have.

Who we are!
Ensenada Rural Higher Education Scholarships, Inc. helps fund educational expenses for promising students in high school and college who live in the areas of Maneadero to La Bufadora, Ensenada, in Baja California.
History of the program:
For nearly 30 years, this program has been offering educational scholarships to deserving high school and college students in the Maneadero and Punta Banda area of Ensenada. At times, these students have included adults who are returning to further their education.
Over the years the program has assisted over 150 deserving students reach their educational goals. For the 2023 Fall Term we are assisting 49 students with financial assistance. Currently we are supporting 14 students that do not have a direct sponsor. You can help! We believe that together we can unlock the unlimited potential of the next generation of Mexican change makers.
In the past, education in México was only free for Primary and Middle school students. In recent years it has been made free through Prepa (high school), however, there are still administrative fees, uniforms, supplies, and transportation costs. Our scholarship program awards deserving Prepa students $200 US dollars a year and for university students $600 US dollars a year for tuition and other school-related expenses. For the students to be admitted and continue in the program, they must demonstrate academic excellence.
For many years Ms. Rosa Diaz single-handedly administered the program. Since the passing of Ms. Diaz, the program is now administered by a committee chaired by Robin Viteri and committee members, Claire Eversole, Michelle Rodgers, and Santa Calderon. The Program is a U.S. non-profit 501(c)(3) organization.

Featured Students
All our students are enthusiastic and hard-working. All students must have had a 9.0-grade point average in the previous school year. Students must maintain a grade point average of 9.0 or higher while receiving assistance.
